Neola Children's Rodeo

I grew up in small town UT and I've never been to a rodeo -- EVER! Until last night anyway.... kind of.

The Neola rodeo is this weekend. Thursday night we went over for a dutch oven dinner and cowboy poetry. The food was pretty good, it was catered by our neighbor's little company. The poetry was not really my thing but my parents really enjoyed it.

Last night was the Children's Rodeo. They let them in by age to chase different animals and if they catch one they get to keep it. Camden got to chase a bunny. We set him over the fence and he ran right out and caught one....

Unfortunately, they hadn't said "GO" yet and they made him put it back and start over :( He didn't catch one the second time around.

Emme got to chase after chickens and pigs. I don't know if she even got close to one.

Jarek chased pigs and chickens too, and he caught a chicken.

Just what we needed!

Afterward we were talking to Holly, my brother's high school sweetheart, and her son had caught a chicken as well, but they live in town and couldn't keep it so he gave it to Emme.

So, we now have two pygmy goats, two chickens, and two dogs and I'm really not an animal person. But Camden looked so sweet carrying that little bunny.... I might just have to get him one to keep.

I was raised in a fairly large town in CA and was close to the other towns. I now love small town life. Had been around dogs and cats but nothing else. I can now take care of most animals, clean chickens (I hate that) and milk cows. Tons of fun. Good knowledge to have. Could I have a pic of the pups please.

What a fun event! Of course, if you're not careful, pretty soon YOU can host a rodeo at your own house! lol. Seriously, what incredible memories you are creating for your sweet family. Thanks for sharing!!!!

That is so cool, I can't believe they let you keep the animals also. I agree that you are a brave woman!! I am so not an animal person!!

Say What???

4/28/11 -- My Aunt Natalie's funeral was today and Camden asked several questions about death throughout the day. Tonight I told him he could watch TV but not play video games, and he said "Because it's one of those funeral days?"

5/17/11 -- Camden coloring with markers: "Mom, the blue doesn't work because some kind of kid left it open."

5/18/11 -- Camden: "Mom, I love you. I love you more than ice cream."

5/27/11 -- Eating lunch at Canton City Camden says "Mom, I love ice cream, but sometimes it gives me brain freeze -- do you get brain freeze?" Me: "Sometimes, but I never got it when I was little." Camden: "Because you didn't have brains?"

5/31/11 -- Emme was playing with my eyelash curler and Camden walked in and asked: "Are you pretending to be pretty?"

5/31/11 -- Tristen said Jarek looked Chinese. I explained that it was a genetic impossibility. Then Tristen said "Well, maybe there are just so many Chinese people that God throws the extras to the Mormons."

7/11 -- A couple of days after we got our male baby goat I asked Camden if he wanted to hold him. He said he had held him before, so I asked him when. He said "A few years ago."

8/2/11 -- Camden: "What do you call a fly if you pull it's wings off?"

8/3/11 -- Jarek: "Are you going somewhere Mom?" (A VERY common question for him to ask.) Me: Yeah, I'm going to Vernal." Jarek: "And you're wearing that?"

8/31/11 -- Jarek, comparing two desserts at Cafe Rio: "They taste pretty much the same except for the flavor."

9/1/11 -- Camden, as we walked by a mens baseball team practicing: "Look Mom, they're playing t-ball."

9/20/11 -- "What is that horrible noise?" Camden's reaction when Jarek started practicing his trumpet.

11/3/11 -- Emme: "Camden, I think your fish is dead."
Camden: "NO IT'S NOT, it's just laying down!"
